In addition to beautiful mansions, Newport has many other interesting places liked by the tourist, one that is often overlooked is Belcourt Castle. The castle does not consist of the grandeur like other mansions in the area but attracts many due to many haunting occurrences. The castle management has started to organize ghost tours during the summer season. According to the legend, 1-2 Chairs in the Gothic Ballroom contains spirits in them.

Facts about Belcourt Castle Chairs
- The hunted chairs are known by the name salt chair or salt thrones. They received their unique name due to the practice of storing salt in them, as at the time salt was a valuable article of trade.
- According to the visitors, when one puts their hand near the chairs, the hand gets cold and prickly. Moreover, if somebody tries to sit on the chair, resistance can be experienced. In one well-documented case, a man was thrown from the chair.
- Some of the legends suggest that the armor seen in the Gothic ballroom contains the spirit of its owner. Supposedly, he died when a spear went through his eyeslot and out the other end. It is said that he can be heard screaming around the time of March.
- The first owner of the castle is reported to be Oliver Hazard Perry Belmont.
- Items from over 30 different countries have been used to furnish the castle.
- It is said that the salt chairs were used only by kings and can be differentiated by their oversized backs. As at the time, the chairs with back were considered a royal privilege, and only kings and royalties could use them.
- Sources advocate that a ghostly monk wanders through the castle. It has been experienced that he appears in whatever location the statue of a similar figure below is placed. Some say that it seems as if the spirit of the monk is tied to the statue.
- The salt thrones now have been roped off as a testament to the justifiable concern of the owners, they have for visitors.
