Description
The horror film is based on the novel Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark by Nigel McKeand. The movie produced by Guillermo del Toro, Mark Johnson, Stephen Jones.
Plot
The movie revolves around a house that has some sort of creature living in its ash pit basement. The creatures are always hungry for the teeth of young children and have fear of light. They kill the first owner of the house Blackwood as well as his son. The house is purchased by Alex Hurst who comes to live in the house with his little daughter Sally and girlfriend Kim. His daughter isn’t fond of his father’s girlfriend but will slowly begin to like her. The creatures come around the little girl’s rooms to take her with them. Further, it will show Kim trying to save Sally as she started to find the truth about the house.

• The set of alphabets carved into the stone over the furnace that the creatures live down spells out “Be Afraid” in Elder Futhark. |
• The film was suitable to be set in Providence, Rhode Island as that was the home of H.P. Lovecraft who was the writer of the story “The Rats in the Walls”. The story is supposedly the inspiration for this film. Although the short story was set in England, not Rhode Island. |
• Guillermo del Toro voice one of the creatures in the film. He was also seen as the passenger on the plane behind Sally. |
• Katie Holmes (Kim) and Abbe Holmes (Voice artist for Sally’s mother) are not related to each other. |
• In the original television movie, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark released in 1973, Sally was the name of Alex’s wife, not his daughter. |
⇒ Its a classic horror film. I really liked it. The jump scares were really good especially when the little girl sally saw them for the first time, that scene really had potential.
