How did Margot Robbie prepare for the part of Harley Quinn?

We all loved the character of Harley Quinn, but have you ever thought how Margot Robbie prepared for the part? Here are some facts you should to know

Robbie started to get in the world of tattooing while filming Suicide Squad (2016). During the shoots of the film, she started Harley’s Tattoo Parlour and inked fellow cast members, members of the crew, as well as the director David Ayer.

Not many people are aware of the fact that she did not need to submit a demo reel or go through any audition procedure to bag the part of Harley Quinn (aka Dr. Harleen Quinzel) in Suicide Squad (2016). It was offered to her on the basis of her auditioned for the role of Sue Storm in Fantastic Four (2015), which was given to Kate Mara instead.

She was praised for playing the part many a times. Director of the film Suicide Squad said during San Diego Comic-Con International 2016 that it was a blessing to have Robbie on board as Harley Quinn. He stated not many actresses would have tolerated what she went through to prepare for and perform the role.

Did you know that she did not go through any sort of rehearsal process, with Jared Leto, for Suicide Squad.

She enjoyed playing Quinn a lot to an extent that she for kept the jacket worn by Harley Quinn and her baseball bat after the filming was complete.

Not many people know that Robbie had taken circus classes when she was 8 years old in Australia. She used the skill for her part as Quinn in the film.

She was very professional with acting and to train for the role as Dr. Harleen Quinzel, she researched MMPI testing to identify how mental illnesses are diagnosed. She used the information that she collected from the testing to try and apply it to her responses and how she dealt with a character like the Joker.

The pair of Joker and Quinn was adored by many but not a lot of the fans are aware of that there is an age gap of 19-year between Robbie and Jared Leto.

Not only the views but the creator of Harley Quinn, Paul Dini, also thought very highly of Margot’s performance. He stated “nailed it perfectly”.

For her part, she had to spend more than 3 hours on the makeup chair to be transformed into Harley. Her makeover included her having her skin painted white, putting on 20 impermanent tattoos, applying wig, and how can we forget her iconic costume.

Robbie had many tattoos painted on her character Harley Quinn in both Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey and she says there is meaning behind every one of them. The tattoo of a dolphin jumping over a rainbow was important to Robbie because she felt Dr. Quinzel would have seen a tattoo as being super rebellious, but didn’t want to be too edgy (at the time).

In real life she is allergic to chicken egg whites. For her scenes in Birds of Prey (2020) where Quinn eats an egg sandwich, the team had to provide duck eggs to evade an allergic reaction.
