The Sea Organ

Most of the people in the world are fond of music and what’s better than the combination of music and beach. Beaches are really great way to get away from the stressful atmosphere people live-in these days. They are exceptional space for playing, soothing mind, and listening to music along with enjoying the beauty of the sea that satisfies one’s eyes to the fullest. The music produced by their waves is quite calming. Known as Sea Organ, this architectural creation was constructed to level-up the melody, all the seas present us with.

Masked under the immense white steps of the town of Zadar, in Croatia, is located this melodious sea, the Sea Organ. The people there have created a structure on the seashore which makes harmonics sound heard when coming and going on the surface of the seawater. The crooning structure is a 230-foot long instrument made on the coast. On approaching the surface it looks like large marble steps commencing into the Adriatic Sea. Below, however, rests a set of narrow channels that connect to 35 organ pipes.

Sea Organ

Its creation began after the second world war since these shores were greatly damaged by the battle. Its creation is credited to an architect named Nikola Basic. The attraction was opened to everyone in 2005. Since its opening, the place has been well-liked by the local residents as well as tourists from other countries. The visitors say the sound is “hauntingly memorable“ and “rather rhythmical and even hypnotizing.” This is the only sea organ in the world. It was awarded the European Prize for Urban Public Space in 2006.
