Who was Junko Furuta? What happened to her in 40 days Captivation?
Junko Furuta was a 17-year-old Japanese high school student who was kidnapped and then tortured by 4 boys with very unimaginable way and finally death after 44 days. Junko Furuta was a good looking, active teenager who enjoyed a lot of attention and that made some people jealous. She did not smoke, did not drink alcohol and did not do drugs which was seen as very uncool in the eyes of more gangster like teens. One of them – Hiroshi Miyano had a crush on her but not looking for a relationship, Junko Furuta turned him down.
On November 25, 1988, four boys abducted Furuta, and held her captive for 40 days in a house in the Ayase district of Adachi, Tokyo, owned by the parents of one of the boys, a 17-year-old named Jō, who was later given the surname Kamisaku.

Furuta was a student at Yashio-Minami High School and she had been kidnapped shortly after leaving school. To avoid concern over her abduction, the perpetrators forced Furuta to call her parents and tell them that she would be staying at a friend’s house for a while. Over the course of her confinement, Furuta was repeatedly raped, beaten, and tortured by her four captors until they killed her.The parents of Kamisaku were present in the home for at least a part of the time that Furuta was held captive, and though she pleaded with them for help, they did not intervene, later claiming that they feared their son too much to do so.The killers hid her corpse in a 208-litre oil drum filled with concrete. They disposed of the drum in a tract of reclaimed land in Kōtō, Tokyo.
According to their statements at their trial, the four of them raped her, beat her, introduced foreign objects including an iron rod into her private area, made her drink her own urine and was fed cockroaches, inserted fireworks into her anus, and set them off, forced Furuta to masturbate, cut her nipple with pliers, dropped dumbbells onto her stomach, and burned her with cigarettes and lighters. She begged them on several occasions to kill her and get it over with.
The boys were arrested and tried as adults, but, because of Japanese handling of crimes committed by juveniles, their identities were concealed by the court. The four boys pled guilty to a reduced charge of “committing bodily injury that resulted in death”, rather than murder.
One of the most disturbing parts of this true story is that her killers are now free. After putting Junko Furuta through all that suffering, they are free men! And only have 8 years in prison.
Furuta’s parents were dismayed by the sentences received by their daughter’s killers, and won a civil suit against the parents of the boy in whose home the crimes were committed.
